At Fox Glacier Guiding, we work hard to create an environment where our people love to come to work. It’s a family kind of environment and although we work hard, we also have a lot of fun. SUMMERS COOLEST JOB
Glacier Guide Extraordinaires, Fox Glacier
Location: Fox Glacier, South Island, NZ
Season: October to May (Peak Ice Season)
Position Type: Seasonal Glacier Guide
Spend your summer where the ice never melts, and the adventures never stop. Do you dream of trading fluorescent lights for frozen waterfalls? Want to swap a desk job for dazzling blue ice and mountain air that slaps harder than your morning espresso? If your heart beats faster at the thought of crampons, crevasses, and carving paths through ancient ice, then we want you on our team.
What you’ll do:
- Lead adventurers from around the world across the icy playground of Fox Glacier.
- Keep guests safe, smiling and snapping unforgettable pics.
- Share fun glacier facts that make people go “whoa!”
- Work with a fun, skilled team who know the ropes – literally.
What we’re looking for:
- Passion for the outdoors and a solid level of fitness.
- A current first aid cert.
- Guiding experience is a huge plus – but enthusiasm, responsibility and a good attitude are just as important.
- A solid sense of humour and ice-cold composure under pressure.
- Available to work the full summer season. (Oct-May)
- You must be eligible to work in New Zealand for the entire season.
Bonus points if you:
- Have guiding experience, outdoor quals, alpine skills, rope skills or you are a strong step cutting legend.
- Can tell a good glacier pun without cracking under pressure.
- You look smashing in merino, softshell and Gore-Tex
- Speak mandarin.

Fox Glacier Guiding (and its sister company Mt Cook Glacier Guiding) are currently looking for Trainee Glacier Guides to join our team in June and August 2024
This is an opportunity to live in a unique environment where glaciers, rainforest and the ocean meet, at the foot of New Zealand’s highest mountains. South Westland provides plentiful opportunities for climbing, tramping, hunting, fishing, and kayaking.
If you love being outdoors, you are physically fit, you connect with people, and you can tell a good story, we would like to hear from you.
Working on the Fox Glacier or Tasman Glacier will give you an opportunity to learn and develop guiding skills in a dynamic alpine environment accessed by helicopters. We provide professional training within the framework of the New Zealand Mountain Guides’ Association.
Requirements:
- Great customer service skills
- Current first aid qualification (Preferably PHEC or Advanced Outdoor First Aid)
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand
- A full drivers license
- Pre- employment drug and alcohol screening
- Previous guiding experience would be an advantage
- Mandarin language skills are advantageous
