We seek to be a more transparent business to operate as efficiently as possible and improve the areas where we aren’t. By understanding and becoming aware of how much energy we use and how we manage our resources, we’ll find ways to reduce and eliminate waste. We’re taking the necessary steps to be successful now and in the future.
We are proud to be certified Climate Positive Business Operations with Ekos. We have measured and offset 120% of our carbon footprint for glacier guiding for the 2023 financial year with certified carbon credits. These offsets grow and protect forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection,
erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.
Ekos helps develop and supports carbon projects that grow and protect permanent restorative forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Ekos connects carbon offset buyers with these projects by measuring business and individual carbon footprints, supplying certified forest carbon offsets, and providing carbon certifications (Zero Carbon, Climate Positive, Carbon Footprint Certifications). These forest carbon projects deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity protection and community economic development.
Encourage the use of technology for remote meetings. If an in-person meeting is required, promote the use of low emissions or public transport.
Upgrade company car fleet to hybrid or electric models as available.
Investigate and move towards a carbon-free helicopter transport option.
Lease smaller passenger vehicles to reduce the use of bigger buses.
Remove wood-burning fireplace and replace with a more energy-efficient option.
Swap out old lighting to more energy efficient LED and implement the use of automatic switches.
Install solar panels on the Guides Base Building.
Pest Free Fox Glacier Guiding
To celebrate 50 years of Glacier Guiding, we wanted to give something back to the place that’s given us so much. Instead of a big celebration, we invested in the future of our environment, launching Pest Free Fox Glacier Guiding, a hands-on conservation project right here in our own backyard.
Each trap line we maintain represents our ongoing commitment to care for Te Moeka o Tuawe/Fox Glacier and the surrounding forests that make this place so special. Our guides check and maintain traps monthly recording data through the Trap.nz app to measure real progress on the ground.
